DOCTOR WHO: Resurgence
From the black depths of space, a spacecraft slowly fades into view. Onboard, two mercenaries are transporting an insidious cargo. So begins one of S&N Films most epic productions. Doctor Who: Resurgence boasted the longest pre-production period of any S&N movie to date, and the time and care put into constructing the sets and ironing out the script are more than evident on the screen.
In the adventure, the Doctor and his two young companions, Laura and Joey, arrive on the volcanic world of Thanatos Minor. They are befriended by a group of geologists studying the unique circumstances surrounding the planet and the forces rapidly tearing it apart. The two mercenaries, Ares and Kendra, arrive shortly thereafter, and it is soon revealed they are not alone when a Dalek emerges from their ship.
The mercenaries are aiding the Dalek in its quest to restore power to an underground bunker hidden on Thanatos Minor. Inside are thousands of Dalek legions, waiting to be awakened in order to continue their scourge of the universe. Only through the intervention of the Doctor, are the plans of the evil trio thwarted. The Dalek resurgence is halted, ending in a fiery explosion when the Doctor rigs Ares' ship to collide with the Dalek Army transport.

The sets for Resurgence, primarily engineered by Rich Spotts with the assistance of his brother Kevin, included the interior of Ares' ship, the Dalek bunker, the geologists' laboratory, and the intricate network of caves under the planet's surface. Besides the Dalek, a cycloptic Petromorph creature-the native lifeform on Thanatos Minor--was also designed. The incredible footage on the surface of the planet was shot at night, relying heavily on special lighting and the use of a smoke machine.
Resurgence also included an astounding how-did-they-do-that set-piece. When the hull of Ares' ship is punctured by a fragment of the exploding planet, the craft depressurizes, threatening to drag the cast out into the deadly vacuum of space. Battling the heat and exhaustion, the crew banned together to jury-rig a brand new set and worked late into the night to complete the demanding sequence. Special kudos go to Greg Niles for his attentive camera work in capturing the action of that scene.
